I’d only really consider one of these for myself if it was a convertible (gotta have something to make up for the lack of power) but this $2500 Karmann Ghia looks like a solid buy.

This reminds me that I kind of miss Coty and his coterie (cotyrie?) of ragbag air-cooleds.

That feels like an incredible price for something in that condition.

I was looking for any recent activity from him the other day...and was sad to see there wasn’t much coming from him.

The hose is never far away from a clean car.

I’d say go for it! Power isn’t so much a problem...even lower-powered classics like the Karman Ghia can usually take on modern classics well enough.

Look at Borsuq, he often daily drives (in the city) his FIAT 126 with 24hp in nice weather and he says it’s perfectly adequate! :) Mind you, it’s a pretty light car...he’s had it up to 110kph though! :P

Autostick! Those are so much fun to prank new guys with at the shop, if you have your hand on the shifter at all, they won’t engage gear. Price is more than fair if it’s not rusty.

If you don’t buy it I might! If you do buy it and don’t like it just bring it to German day in a couple weeks or transportation (vw) day in the fall at Larz Anderson with a for sale sign. You will probably get your money back

My aunt owned one of these, the floor rotted out. My uncle replaced the floor with plywood. It worked.

As long as the rust isn’t too serious, that seems like a great deal. I had an auto-stick Karmann Ghia for a while and it was a hoot. Slow as molasses, but who cares when it looks that cool.

Thing is, I’ve never owned a car with more than 200hp so I’m kind of itching for something fast. If I’m going to buy a low-power car it’s gotta be something so special that it’s worth it.

I actually prefer the coupe to the convertible on a Karmann, it seems more like a finished design. I feel the same about Porsches too, the convertibles and targa tops look funny. $2500 is a damn good price, these are going up fast.

Bah, you don’t miss the power. Maybe things will be different with the autostick but with mine I have no trouble keeping up with traffic. If you live near any large hills you might find yourself taking a different route, but it’s worth it for all the attention you get driving around in a Karmann Ghia.

They’re actually REALLY fun in the twisties, too. Not good per se, but fun.

It’s hard to say without better shots of the paint and rust, but worst case scenario it’s still more than fair.

I’ve used my Karmann Ghia as a freeway commuter a couple times. It’s far from ideal, but doing 85 mph with 46 hp is an absolute gas!
